Farmers use this website on phones in the paddock, on old laptops, with glasses off, with gloves on and with patchy signal. We want every one of them to be able to find what they need, whatever device, eyesight or ability they have.
Our aim
We design and test this website against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, the standard most governments and organisations use. We have not yet had an independent accessibility audit, so this statement describes our own checks.
What we have built in
- Keyboard friendly
- Every link, button and form works with the keyboard alone. A “Skip to content” link comes first, and the focus outline is always visible and never hidden under the sticky header.
- Easy to tap
- Buttons and links are at least 44 by 44 pixels on phones, and every menu link stays visible at every screen size (no hidden “hamburger” menu).
- Readable
- Text and background colours meet the WCAG contrast ratios, pages reflow to fit screens as narrow as 320 pixels without sideways scrolling, and you can zoom the browser to enlarge the text.
- Calm motion
- If your device is set to reduce motion, the fade-in and page-change animations switch off.
- Screen readers
- Pages use proper headings, landmarks and labels. Photos have text descriptions, and decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- Forms that help
- Every form field has a visible label, errors are explained in words (not colour alone), and the contact form keeps your draft if the signal drops.
- Works on slow connections
- Pages are light and fast, and the site shows a simple offline page instead of a browser error when there is no signal.
How we check
Every time the website changes, we run automated accessibility tests (axe-core) on every page at desktop and phone sizes, check for small tap targets and sideways scrolling, and step through new features with the keyboard. Automated tests catch only some problems, which is why your feedback matters.
Known gaps
- Some older newsletter articles and community posts come from our previous website and may have photos without full descriptions.
- The sign-in page, the REALM Marketplace and our finance partner’s website are separate services. We ask their teams to meet the same standard, but this statement covers this website only.
- We have not yet tested with a wide range of assistive technology users. If you use a screen reader, magnifier, switch or voice control, we would love to hear how it goes.
Tell us about a barrier
If anything on this website is hard to use, or you need information in a different format, please tell us. Say which page it was and what happened, and we will do our best to fix it or get you the information another way.
