When will my cows calve or my ewes lamb?

Use our free Livestock due date calculator: pick cattle, sheep, goats, pigs or horses, enter the mating or joining date and it shows the average due date, the usual range and a “watch from” date, and can add them to your phone calendar. Averages only - your vet knows your animals best. Open the due date calculator →

How many fence posts and how much wire do I need?

Use our free Fencing calculator: enter the paddock length and width (or a straight fence length), your post spacing, number of wires, gates and the metres of wire on your roll. It estimates the posts, the wire with a little extra for tying off, the number of rolls and the paddock area in hectares and acres. It is an estimate for flat ground - check with your supplier or contractor before you buy. Open the Fencing calculator →

How much hay or feed do I need for my stock?

Use our free Feed budget calculator: enter the number of head, the days you need to feed, their average liveweight, the daily intake (as a % of liveweight), your feed’s dry matter % and wastage, and the weight of one bale. It estimates the tonnes and bales to have on hand. It is a quantity estimate only - talk to your vet or livestock adviser about the ration itself. Open the Feed budget calculator →

How many bags of fertiliser do I need, and how much N, P and K is that?

Use our free Fertiliser calculator: enter your product rate (kg/ha), the area, the bag and spreader bin size and the analysis printed on the bag (N, P, K and S %, or P₂O₅ and K₂O on American and Canadian labels). It shows the tonnes, bags and spreader loads, and the kilograms of each nutrient you put on a hectare and in all - plus the cost if you enter what you pay a tonne. It only does the arithmetic: a soil test and your agronomist are the best guide to the rate. Open the Fertiliser calculator →

How much chemical goes in each spray tank?

Use our free Spray tank mix calculator: enter the area, your water rate (L/ha), tank size and the label rate of up to three products. It shows how many tank loads the job takes and a mixing sheet with the product for every full tank and the part-filled last tank. It only does the arithmetic - always read and follow the product label. Open the Spray tank mix calculator →

How do I calibrate my boom sprayer?

Use our free Boom spray calibration calculator: enter your nozzle spacing, ground speed and the water rate you want (L/ha), then do a jug test - catch each nozzle for the same number of seconds with clean water - and type in the mL. It shows the litres a minute each nozzle needs, the L/ha you are really putting out, which nozzles are more than your chosen % from the average, and the speed or pressure that would put you on target. Stay within the nozzle and label pressure range. Open the Boom spray calibration calculator →

What seeding rate should I use in kg/ha?

Use our free Seeding rate calculator: enter the plants per m² you want, the seed weight (grams per 1,000 seeds) and your germination and establishment %. It works out the seeds to sow, the rate in kg/ha and lb/acre, and the seed and bags for your area. The right plant stand depends on your crop and district, so check with your agronomist or seed supplier. Open the Seeding rate calculator →

Which feed is cheapest - hay, silage or grain?

Use our free Feed cost comparer: enter each feed’s price per tonne, dry matter % and (if you have it) energy in MJ per kg of dry matter from the feed test. It ranks up to four feeds by cost per megajoule of energy, or per tonne of dry matter, so wet and dry feeds are compared fairly. Price is only part of the choice - ask your nutritionist or adviser about the ration. Open the Feed cost comparer →

How much will my grain shrink when I dry it?

Use our free Grain moisture shrink calculator: enter the wet tonnes, the moisture now and the moisture you are drying to (your target or the buyer’s receival moisture). It shows the tonnes left, the water taken out, the shrink % and shrink per point, and - with your own $/t - what the shrink is worth. Buyers and storage sites set their own moisture limits, shrink and drying charges, so check your contract. Open the grain moisture calculator →

How many truck loads will my crop be?

Use our free Harvest & truck loads calculator: enter the area, your expected yield in tonnes a hectare and what your truck carries. It shows the tonnes, the truck loads (and how much is on the last part load), and - optionally - the chaser bin or grain cart loads, the hours of harvesting at your own hectares an hour, how often a truck fills and the crop value at your own $/t. Yield is never certain until it is in the bin, and load limits depend on your truck, permits and roads. Open the harvest calculator →

How many hectares an hour will my machine cover?

Use our free Field work rate calculator: enter the working width in metres and your speed in km/h (width × speed ÷ 10 = hectares an hour), and - optionally - your own field efficiency % for turns, overlap and filling. Add the area to see the hours for the job, the hours you work a day to see it in working days, and your own litres an hour and $ an hour for the fuel and cost per hectare. Real rates change with paddock shape, ground and weather, so use your own records when you have them. Open the work rate calculator →

How much would the repayments be on a loan?

Use our free Loan repayment calculator: enter the amount you would borrow, the interest rate from your quote, the term in years and whether you pay monthly, fortnightly or weekly. Add a balloon % if the loan leaves a lump sum at the end, and an extra amount each payment to see how much interest it saves. It is arithmetic on your own numbers, not a quote or financial advice - for an actual loan you can apply with our sister brand Pay In Time Finance. Open the loan repayment calculator →

Should I buy a machine or use a contractor?

Use our free Machinery cost calculator: enter the price, the resale or trade-in value you expect, the years you would keep it, your interest rate, your insurance + shed % and the hectares a year and hectares an hour it would work, plus your running cost an hour (fuel, repairs, labour). It shows what owning costs a hectare, an hour and a year. Add a contractor’s quote in $/ha to see which is cheaper and the area a year where owning starts to pay. It only does the arithmetic on your numbers - timeliness matters too, and your accountant can help with tax and finance. Open the machinery cost calculator →

How do I compare farms by price per hectare or acre?

Use our free Farm property price comparer: enter the asking or sale price and the total area of up to four properties, in hectares or acres, and - if you know it - the usable area (the arable, cropping or grazing land you would actually farm). It shows each one’s price per hectare and per acre, overall and per usable area, ranks them from the lowest and shows how much more each costs than the cheapest. It is arithmetic on your own numbers, not a valuation: rainfall, soil, water, improvements and buying costs matter too, so talk to a licensed agent or valuer before you buy. Open the farm property price comparer →

How long do I need to run my pump to put on 25 mm?

Use our free Irrigation calculator: enter the area, your pump flow in litres a second and the hours run. It shows the megalitres pumped, the millimetres put on (1 ML over 1 ha is 100 mm), mm per hour and how long to run for the depth you want - and, with your own $/ML, what the water cost. How much water a crop or pasture needs depends on soil, weather and season, so check with your agronomist and stay within your licence or allocation. Open the irrigation calculator →

How fast are my cattle or sheep growing?

Use our free Weight gain calculator: enter the average weight at the first and latest weighing and the days between. It shows the average daily gain (kg and lb a head a day), what the whole mob put on and - if you enter a target weight - roughly how many days until they get there at the same rate. Add your own c/kg price to see what the gain is worth. It is arithmetic on your own weighings, not a benchmark; growth changes with feed and season. Open the weight gain calculator →

How do I work out my lamb marking or calf branding %?

Use our free Marking & weaning % calculator: pick sheep/goats or cattle and enter the females joined, the young counted at scanning (optional), the young marked or branded and the young weaned (optional). It shows your scanning, marking and weaning % per female joined, how many young were lost between each step and - if you enter your own target - how many more you would need. It is arithmetic on your own counts, not a benchmark. Open the marking & weaning calculator →

What price do I need to break even on store cattle or lambs?

Use our free Livestock break-even calculator: enter the head, the buy weight and price in c/kg, your buying costs, the days until sale, the daily gain, the feed or agistment cost a head a day, other costs, deaths % and your selling costs. It shows the sale weight, the cost of each head sold and the c/kg liveweight price you need to break even - or to make the margin you want - plus the cost of gain. Add the price you expect to see the profit or loss a head and for the mob. It is arithmetic on your own numbers, not a price forecast. Open the livestock break-even calculator →

What will freight cost to truck my grain, hay or livestock?

Use our free Freight cost calculator: choose tonnes, head or bales, enter how much you are moving, what one truck carries, the distance one way, your carrier’s rate a km (charged on the loaded km only or both ways) and any charge a load for loading, wash-out or tolls. It shows the truck loads, the km charged, the whole freight bill, the cost a tonne, a head or a bale, a load and a tonne-km, how full the last truck is and what filling it would save, freight as a % of the value if you add it, and a table for rates 10% and 20% lower or higher. It is arithmetic on your own quote - we don’t quote freight rates, and carriers also charge minimums, fuel levies and waiting time. Open the freight cost calculator →

What will agistment really cost - is it cheaper than feeding at home?

Use our free Agistment cost calculator: enter the head, the weeks away, the agistment rate a head a week you were quoted, the freight there and back and any other costs a head (mustering, drenching, vet, insurance). It shows the full bill, what it really costs a head a week and a day once freight and extras are counted and, if you add the daily gain, the cost of each kg gained. Add your cost of feeding a head a day at home to see which is cheaper, the agistment rate where the two cost the same and a table for rates $1 and $2 lower or higher. It is arithmetic on your own numbers - we don’t quote agistment rates, and deaths, condition and the terms you agree with the landholder matter too. Open the agistment cost calculator →

Should I store my grain or sell it at harvest?

Use our free Store or sell grain calculator: enter the tonnes, the price you can get now, the price you think you can get later (your own estimate or a forward quote), the months you would store it, the storage cost a tonne a month, one-off handling costs, the loss in storage % and your interest rate. It compares selling now with storing and selling later after every cost, shows the gain or loss, the later price you need just to break even, what each extra month costs and a table for later prices $20 and $40 lower or higher. It is arithmetic on your own numbers, not a price forecast - nobody knows where the price will go, so talk to your marketing adviser before you decide. Open the store or sell grain calculator →

Will my crop pay? How do I work out a gross margin?

Use our free Crop gross margin calculator: enter the area, your expected yield in t/ha and price in $ a tonne, and your growing costs a hectare - seed, fertiliser, chemicals, fuel/repairs/contract work and other costs - plus freight and storage a tonne and levies as a % of the grain income. It shows the income, variable costs and gross margin a hectare and for the whole area, the cost a tonne, the yield and the price you need just to cover the costs, and a table of what happens if the yield or price is 20% lower or higher. It is arithmetic on your own numbers, not a forecast: a gross margin leaves out overheads like rates, wages, depreciation and interest, so talk to your agronomist or adviser before you decide. Open the crop gross margin calculator →

How much are my cattle or sheep worth at a c/kg price?

Use our free Livestock sale value calculator: enter the head, average liveweight and the price in cents per kg - on liveweight, or on carcase weight with a dressing % - plus commission, levies and freight. It shows the value per head, the total, what you keep after costs and the net c/kg liveweight, so you can compare offers. Use your agent’s or buyer’s quote for the price. Open the sale value calculator →

How many tonnes does my silo hold?

Use our free Silo capacity calculator: enter the diameter, wall height, hopper cone and roof peak heights and the grain’s bulk density (t/m³). It shows the volume and tonnes when full and, from the grain depth, how much is in it now. Check the maker’s rating plate too - and never enter a silo to measure. Open the Silo capacity calculator →

How much lime do I need if my product has a lower NV?

Use our free Lime & gypsum calculator: enter the rate from your soil test or agronomist, the neutralising value (NV) that rate is written for and your product’s NV from the supplier’s spec sheet. It shows the rate for your product, the tonnes for the paddock, spreader and truck loads - and the cost if you enter what you pay. It does the arithmetic only; how much lime your soil needs is for your soil test and agronomist. Open the Lime & gypsum calculator →

How many bales will my paddock make?

Use our free Hay & silage bale calculator: enter the area, your own yield estimate (tonnes per hectare as baled) and the weight of your bales. It shows the tonnes, whole bales, bales per hectare and truck loads, whether that covers the bales you need, and the value if you enter your own price per bale. We don’t show yields or hay prices. Open the Hay & silage bale calculator →

How much fuel will the next job use?

Use our free Fuel use calculator: enter the litres a job used, the hectares you covered and (if you like) the engine hours. It shows litres per hectare, per acre and per hour, then the fuel, tank fills and hours for the next job of the same kind - and the cost if you enter what you pay a litre. We don’t show fuel prices. Open the Fuel use calculator →

How long should my stock stay in each paddock?

Use our free Grazing rotation planner: enter your number of paddocks, the rest you want each paddock to get, paddock size, the mob (head, liveweight, daily intake) and the pasture cover going in and to leave behind. It shows how many days each paddock feeds the mob, the rest each paddock gets, days a lap and how many paddocks you would need. It is arithmetic on your own numbers - walk the paddocks and ask your adviser about the right covers for your pasture. Open the Grazing rotation planner →

How much water is in my tank or dam, and how long will it last?

Use our free Water tank & dam calculator: pick a round tank, a square tank or trough, or a dam, enter its size and the water depth now. It shows the litres when full, the litres in it now and - if you enter the litres you use a day - roughly how many days it will last. Dams also lose water to evaporation and seepage, so keep a margin. Open the Water tank & dam calculator →

Can I keep a record of my rainfall?

Yes - use our free Rain gauge diary. Add each reading in mm or inches (with a note if you like) and it shows the last 7 days, this month, this year and a chart of the last 12 months. It is saved only in your own browser on that device - we never see it - so download a copy (a CSV file for Excel or Google Sheets) now and then. Open the Rain gauge diary →
