Sending stock away on agistment? Put in the rate you were quoted, the freight and the extras to see what it really costs a head - and whether it beats feeding them at home.

All in, that is $6.92 a head a week ($0.99 a head a day) - $2.92 more than the $4.00 rate once freight and extras are counted.
On these numbers agisting is cheaper than feeding at home ($9,240) by $940 - $9.40 a head.

How we work it out
- Agistment bill: head × weeks × your rate, plus the freight there and back and the other costs a head. All in a head a week: that bill ÷ head ÷ weeks.
- Cost a kg gained: the all-in cost a head ÷ (daily gain × days away). Feeding at home: head × your cost a head a day × days.
- Break-even rate: the rate a head a week at which agistment, with your freight and extras, costs the same as feeding at home.
This is arithmetic on your own numbers, not advice - we don’t quote agistment rates. Things it doesn’t price: deaths and losses away from home, the condition stock come back in, the time spent checking them, and resting your own paddocks. Agree the rate, who pays for what and what happens in a dry spell in writing with the landholder. Work out your own feed cost with the feed cost comparer, how much feed you need with the feed budget calculator and the c/kg you need with the livestock break-even calculator. Nothing you type is stored or sent anywhere.
