Livestock sale value calculator

Turn a c/kg price into dollars. Enter the head, weights and price - on liveweight or carcase weight - and your selling costs to see the value per head, the total and what you keep.

How is the price quoted?

Carcase ÷ liveweight. Varies with breed, fat, gut fill and the processor.

Use your agent's or buyer's quote. The starting number is only an example.

How we work it out

  • Per head: weight paid on (liveweight, or liveweight × dressing % for carcase) × cents per kg ÷ 100.
  • What you keep: total minus commission (% of the total), levies and fees, and freight (per head).
  • Net c/kg liveweight: what you keep per head ÷ liveweight - a fair way to compare a paddock, saleyard and over-the-hooks offer.

An estimate only: actual weights, curfew and weighing conditions, grids, bruising, GST and your agent's terms change the real cheque. Check the numbers with your agent or buyer. Nothing you type is stored or sent anywhere. Prices in $/cwt or $/lb? Use the livestock price converter; words like dressing percentage and c/kg lwt are in the farm words glossary.
