Lime & gypsum calculator
Got a lime rate from your soil test? Adjust it for the neutralising value of the product you can buy, then see the tonnes, spreader loads and truck loads for the paddock.
Your lime or gypsum
How we work it out
- Product rate: recommended rate × the NV it is written for ÷ your product’s NV. A lower NV means more tonnes to do the same job.
- Tonnes: product rate × area. Per acre = t/ha × 0.405; lb per acre = t per acre × 2,205.
- Loads and cost: tonnes ÷ spreader load and ÷ truck load, rounded up; cost = tonnes × your price.
This only does the arithmetic - it doesn’t tell you how much lime or gypsum your soil needs. Use the rate from your soil test and agronomist, and the NV from your supplier’s spec sheet (fineness also matters, and some rates already allow for it). Gypsum adds calcium and sulphur but doesn’t neutralise acidity, so set both NVs the same. We don’t show prices; use what you pay. Nothing you type is stored or sent anywhere. For other units use the farm unit converter, and for fertiliser the fertiliser calculator.
